Story Elicitation Books
There are 7 books used to elicit stories for comparison with age-matched peers from the SALT Narrative Story Retell database. They include:
- 1 copy of Frog, Where Are You? (Mayer, 1969) for grades P,K,1
- 2 copies of Pookins Gets Her Way (Lester, 1987) for grade 2
- 2 copies of A Porcupine Named Fluffy (Lester, 1986) for grade 3
- 2 copies of Doctor DeSoto (Steig, 1982) for grade 4
The frog story is a wordless picture book and may be used for both the model and the retell. The other three books require 2 copies - one for the model and the other, with words covered, for the retell. - Digital Equipment
Going digital for language samples is a relatively easy process. Digital files improve the overall sound quality of the language sample, simplify the transcription process and allow more flexibility and portability of the audio files.
