SALT Reference Databases

Directions for Downloading and Using the SALT Databases

• View the Database Documentation

Select the database documentation link which requires Adobe Reader® to view it. The documentation may be viewed and/or printed.

• Download and Install the Database Files

Before downloading the database files, determine where they should be stored on your computer. Typically they should be stored in the SALT database folder. To determine where this folder is, start up SALT and select File Locations --> Databases from the Setup menu. The default database folder is listed. Note: you don't have to store the database files in this folder; it just makes it easier to access the database from within SALT.

Each SALT database is made up of three files (.SDB, .SDB1, and .SDB2). The Expository database, for example, consists of the files: (1) Expository.SDB, (2) Expository.SDB1, and (3) Expository.SDB2. Click the link to download the database files and you are prompted to Save an executable file. Select Save and save the file to your desktop or to some folder on your computer. Run this file (either double-click it or right-click it and select open). This file is a self-extracting zip file which contains the three database files. Browse to select the folder where you want the database files stored. Once you have selected the folder, click Unzip. If the same database files already exist in the database folder, they will be replaced with the new files.

• Use the Database within the SALT Software

Unless the database you downloaded replaces an existing database of the same name, you may need to explicitly select it as the database to be used for comparison within the Database (or Profile) menu. Just click the Select Database button and select it from the list. Note that you may have to browse to find the database if you did not store it in the default database folder.
