SALT V8 Service Packs
You should download and install SALT V8 Service Pack 3 if the release date of your copy of SALT V8 program is before October 15, 2004. The release date is printed on the front of the SALT CD. If you cannot find the release date on the CD, you should assume that it is before October 15, 2004. You do not need to install Service Packs 1 or 2 prior to installing Service Pack 3. Service Pack 3 incorporates all the changes from Service Packs 1 and 2.
Warning: Be sure to install the correct service pack - either Standard, Research or Instructional. Installing the wrong version will result in the program functioning incorrectly. Similarly, do not install this service pack if you are using an earlier version of the SALT program, such as version 7.0 or 6.x. Note that the SALT V8 Student CDs cannot be updated.
Click on the appropriate download link and either "Open" the service pack file or "Save" it on your computer. If you open the download file, you will be prompted to install the service pack. If you save the download file on your computer, you should then run this file to install the service pack which automatically updates your copy of SALT V8.

Service Pack 3 includes all the fixes from Service Packs 1 and 2 plus the following fixes:
- Fixed the import for CHAT files to allow for non-standard text files.
- Converts smart quotes to straight quotes when processing transcripts. Previously smart quotes were undisplayable.
- Changed to an Explorer-style dialog box when prompting for folder locations so that the Desktop and My Documents can be accessed.
- Changed the handling of split words so that the underscore character is not stored. For example, if your transcript contains the word "porcupine" split by stuttering as in "porcu_ (p* p*) _pine", the word "porcupine" is stored instead of "porcu_pine". If you want the underscore stored, you would change one of the underscore characters to a double underscore character.
- Fixed the word and code list specification in the Explore menus to allow for sets of words to be separated by a colon or semicolon. For example, the specification "{he,she, they}:{is,are,am,was, were,be,been}" matches utterances containing one of the specified pronouns followed by one of the "be" verbs.
- Fixed the transcript cut problem when selecting a range of utterances.
- In the Research version, fixed two of the Rectangular Data File variables. Specifically, the discourse variables OthSpkQu and PcRQu.T were reversed.
Service Pack 2 fixes:
- Added a warning when selecting the vocabulary reports from the Profile menu when no database was selected.
- Fixed the problem in the Explore menu where nothing was processed if analyzing the 2nd speaker.
- Fixed the problem in the Profile Menu and the Rectangular Data File Tool (Research version only) where the Standard Word List counts were not correct if analyzing the 2nd speaker.
Service Pack 1 Fixes:
- Added the restriction that pause and timing lines be only one line long. This was added to facilitate better error messages.
- Fixed the problem where long transcript files were not parsed correctly, resulting in unusual error messages.
- Fixed the problem with starting SALT by double-clicking a transcript file when SALT was already open.
- Fixed the problem with Spanish words containing more than one clitic. Previously, only the last clitic was analyzed.
- Fixed the problem where SALT would crash when comparing a transcript to a reference database set made up of untimed transcripts.
- Fixed the problem when using the transcript cut to restrict analysis to a section of the transcript and then comparing that restricted transcript to a Profile database. Previously if the comparison was based on the entire transcript, the transcript cut was ignored.
