Omitted Pronominal Clitics

To mark the speaker's failure to use a pronominal clitic in an obligatory context, type an asterisk and then type the omitted pronominal clitic. If the speaker omitted a bound clitic, type the clitic marker followed by the asterisk (+*) and then type the omitted pronominal clitic. The pronominal clitic is obligatory with reflexive verb pronouns, so it is necessary to account for a speaker's omissions.

Consider the following example:
   E Qué pasó|pasar?   Examiner asks, "What happened?"

Here the speaker should respond "él se levantó tarde" (he woke himself up late). Instead the speaker said, "él levantó tarde". This omission of the obligatory reflexive pronoun/clitic "se" should be coded as:
   C Él *se levantó|levantar tarde.   He woke up late.

Notice that the vertical bar convention is used to identify the root forms of the verbs in these examples.
