I am transcribing a narrative but I am not sure how to make note of utterances that were unintelligible. Is there a code I can use for that?

There are two good resources for transcription conventions. The first is the help built into the software. Run SALT and either open an existing transcript or begin a new one (File menu-->New). Once you are in the SALT editor (where you can view and edit the transcript), select Help menu-->Context Help (or press the F1 function key). This brings up a list of the transcript conventions. Select "Unintelligible Segments XX". The second resource is the online training courses on the SALT website. Select Training>Self Paced Online Courses. Courses 1301-1308 cover the transcription conventions. Course 1305 covers unintelligibility.
