Online Story Elicitation

Everything you need to elicit and record narrative stories!

Monolingual English / English-fluent (for grades P, K, 1, 2, 3)
Annual single-user subscription with unlimited uses: $59

Elicit story-retell samples using Frog, Where Are You? (Mayer, 1969), Pookins Gets Her Way (Lester, 1987), and A Porcupine Named Fluffy (Lester, 1986). "Eric" (animated character) provides directions. The story model is presented and the pages of the story are displayed for the student to retell the story. Record and save the student's story. Then either transcribe the sample yourself or send it to SALT's fee-based transcription services. Use SALT software (purchased separately) to compare your narrative with age and grade-matched samples selected from the Narrative Story Retell database.

Can't speak personally with your student? Not a problem!

Share your screen (e.g., Zoom) while "Eric" provides directions, presents the story, then displays the pages again for your student to retell the story. Although an audio recorder is built into this program, when eliciting samples virtually you need to use an alternate recorder, such as your phone or the recorder built into the virtual software.
